Thought I would just pop online to give you a quick life update.
I’ve been fairly busy with work recently – nothing ground breaking – just a few projects on top of the ‘day job’ so feeling a little pushed for time. I might write a little more about some of these projects when they’re a bit further along as I think some of them have scope to have lessons wider than my own team / organisation.
I love the sun (although it, to be fair, does not reciprocate) so I’ve been doing my best to get out in the sunshine and boost up my vitamin D:
As a lover of gin, it is truly amazing how much better gin provision is now than 15 years ago. Even fairly standard bars have really upped their game and some places have brilliant garnishes, copa glasses and a massive selection. I feel like these sunny evenings and bank holidays (no rain?) are the perfect excuse to revisit some local establishments. The photo above is from the Craft and Cleaver in St Albans which is a lovely bar and which does US food. The food isn’t really to my taste – anywhere that does 50/50 fries instead of chips made of potatoes does not get my vote – but the boyfriend really rates it so if you like ribs and deep-fried food, give it a shot!
I have, however, wasted a fair few sunny days indoors watching the cycling as the Giro d’Italia is currently on TV and is full of excitement! After contraversially starting off in Israel, the race is back in Europe and looks like it is going to be a corker after a few flat, slightly dull sprint stages. If you have any interest in sport I would definitely try to catch the highlights of the race.
What I haven’t been doing much of is reading. And not my usual guilty thing of re-reading hundreds of books which don’t count towards my Goodreads but actually just not reading very much. I have a few books on the go – I’m reading SPQR which I’m enjoying so far and I’ve just finished What’s Stopping You Being More Confident? which I thought was absolutely brilliant and We Met Our Cousins which is a lovely old story. I’ve been trying to focus on getting through my Pocket saved articles as some of them are now really old but I think that’s just gotten me into spending more time flicking through different apps so perhaps I need to rethink that.
I mentioned above that work has been a bit hectic and I have noticed that impacting on my wellbeing. I’ve really struggled to get away from my desk for a lunch break. I’ve been bringing in lunch from home a lot recently (savings kick) so I don’t even get away for five or ten minutes most days. I’m trying to at least get away twice a week – although I haven’t managed that in weeks – and also to do my best to work more or less my contracted hours. Definitely doesn’t always work – there was a particularly iffy day which involved working on the train arriving at work two hours early, working through lunch, working on the train and logging in at home but noticing it is the first step to solving it! Still trying to get lots of sleep which always helps at any rate.
I’ve received a subscription beauty box recently which is really exciting – the selection of products is pretty decent and I’ve being enjoying trying out new things. I get a new box this week so I may report back!
